The sample is from “Down by the River” by Neil Young/Crazy Horse. The “be on my side/oh yeah McG’s got my back” portion was the inception point, then I located a more or less naked piece of the song to loop. I tried to create a beat with a drum machine that sort of mimicked “Where It’s At” by Beck but I couldn’t do it (I thought about beatboxing it). At first I tried sampling the drum break from “Beercan” but it was too uptempo, so I went ahead with the intro to Led Zeppelin’s “When the Levee Breaks”, it’s an old standby: (Dre – Lyrical Gangbang, Enigma – Return to Innocence, Beastie Boys – Rhymin’ and Stealin’, A Year and a Day – in which it is ridiculously sped up, and So What’cha Want).

I used Audacity and matched the beats of the two songs by “Change Tempo…” Then I took the part to be looped, and did shift-play until I had highlighted it just right so that it sounded seamless. Then I used the repeat function and made that loop for about 4 minutes. I looped the vocal track just 4 times in similar fashion and put it in the appropriate locations. I didn’t have to excise the vocal from the rest of the instruments on the track because the background music on the vocal portion matched the underlying sample.

Then it’s time to bust a rhyme!

Call me douche-tard or liken me to one of those old women who can’t stop cleaning & fussing, but I took it upon myself to re-upload the file for episode 5 beta with some boosted levels. Being at work currently, I really shouldn’t be messing with such things I suppose, but I feel so empowered by the excessive bandwidth here!
At any rate, those interested in a version of the filler episode that you can hear a bit better, do whatever your player requires for you to replace the old file with the updated one. URL is exactly the same.
As far as editing goes, I just need to get some audio from a few clips and then upload episode 5. Being a working person, I couldn’t take a daytime appointment to get my cable modem replaced today, so sometime tomorrow PM I’ll be able to get things back on track.
